Your commitment and expertise provide girls and young women with opportunities to grow
Dear Girl Guide and Girl Scout volunteers and friends,
The Girl Guide and Girl Scout movement owes its success to the one and a half million volunteers around the world who commit their time, energy and expertise to providing girls and young women with rich and life lasting experiences. 5 December 2009 is International Volunteer Day and I take this opportunity to recognize the wonderful contribution volunteers have made to the growth and development of the movement and its members.
Because of your passion for education, for providing girls with opportunities, for supporting girls to reach their full potential and for creating safe, fun and challenging environments in which to do so, 10 million girls around the world continue the movement’s nearly 100 year tradition of changing lives.
Girl Guiding and Girl Scouting volunteers embody the ethos of Guiding and Scouting; service to others, commitment to a better world and to opening up the opportunities inherent in Girl Guiding and Girl Scouting to diverse communities around the world.
It is the volunteers who create the international family that all Guides and Scouts treasure; who are role models as leaders; and who live and share the values of the organization.
On behalf of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts, I thank you for your dedication, your passion and your support. Because of your work, girls and young women around the world are leaders and agents of change, determined and able to make the world a better place.
With Best Wishes
World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts World Board
